Ok, so I realize I hvae sort of slacked of this week. And for that I am deeply sorry, but I do have one more thing I would like to tell you. God have given you a very amazing gift, a gift that shows His great love (Romans 5:8), so what do you do when someone gives you an awesome gift? You want to tell everyone! So shout out to the world what God has done for you, screem from the rooftops, and never fall silent.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. -Romans 1:16 (ESV)

Finally, I want to share the lyrics to a song I quoted earlier. Just think about this a bit.

Thy Blood was Shed For Me, by Matthew Smith

Let the world their virtue boast and works of righteousness
I, a wretch, undone and lost, am freely saved by grace
Take me, Savior, as I am; let me lose my sins in Thee
Friend of sinners, spotless Lamb, Thy blood was shed for me
Thy blood was shed for me

Full of truth and grace Thou art and here is all my hope
False and foul as hell, my heart, to Thee I offer up
Thou wast given to redeem my soul from iniquity
Friend of sinners, spotless Lamb, Thy blood was shed for me
Thy blood was shed for me

Nothing have I, Lord, to pay nor can Thy grace procure
Empty, send me not away, for Thou knowest I am poor
Dust and ashes is my name, my all is sin and misery
Friend of sinners, spotless Lamb, Thy blood was shed for me
Thy blood was shed for me

By His Wounds

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 6:23 (ESV)

The wages, or payment for sin is death. Every single one of us deserves to die. THat’s it. We deserve nothing else, only death. Yet, through Christ Jesus we are given the FREE gift of God, eternal life. You know what this means guys and girls? Someone else paid the price for us. And that someone is Jesus.

But he was wounded for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his stripes we are healed.
-Isaiah 53:5 (ESV)

Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for the transgressors.
-Isaiah 53:12 (ESV)

I encourage you to read all of Isaiah 53, it’s an amazing chapter and one of my favorites. For now though, let’s focus on these to passages. He was wounded for our transgressions, we sinned against God, we were and are the transgressors, yet we are left unharmed and God’s son bore the wounds that we deserved. He was crushed for our iniquities, again God poured out the punishment for our sins on Christ instead of us. Upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, chastisement, that is a big word my friends, but it means punishment. We have peace because He took the punishment that should have been ours. And with his stripes we are healed, we are healed guys. Because of the stripes on Christ’s back we have been made whole. We are redeemed by His blood and because of Him we can stand before God blameless. Because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors. Jesus took MY sin upon Him as he hung on the cross. ALL my sin, past present and future, it’s all covered by His blood. He makes intercession for me before God, I am still a sinner and sometimes I screw up, but Jesus is always there as my bridge, my gateway back to my heavenly father.

By the wounds of the only begotten Son of God we have been made new. WOW! Doesn’t that make you want to just praise His name? Yeah, we’re still going to screw up and make mistakes, but as long as we have put our trust in God, Jesus has paid for our sins. Verse 6 of Isaiah 53 (ESV) says:

All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

Praise God! My debt is paid! Hallelujah! My Chains are Gone!

Okay, so I realize that this title is not exactly the most encouraging one in the world, in fact I realize that this entire post may not seem to be the most encouraging post ever, but stick with, I’m going somewhere with all of this I promise. It’ll take me the week to get there, but I’m going somewhere.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,-Romans 3:23 (ESV)

Okay, so I’m pretty sure that we’ve all heard this verse right? Like a million times, especially if you’ve grown up to church and attended VBS. But have you ever really stopped and thought about it? I mean REALLY thought about it? It says we have fallen short of the Glory of God. This means that there is a gap, that we can never hope to fill this gap. We are nothing but dust and ashes compared to God. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust, so often I’ve heard that quoted in relation to funerals, but you know what, it’s all we are on our own. By ourselves we are absolutely nothing. We are sinner, dirty rotten wretchs. Nothing but worms. The scum of the earth. I know that might hurt, but hey it’s the truth. And you have to understand this before I can tell the rest of what I want to tell you this week.
