This doesn’t happen often… I cant tell you how many times I’ve been places and had ideas for the blog. Ill jot them down on napkins, receipts, bulletins, my hand, text them to myself, or just anything. Today….. I have….nothing. Trust me, this is realllllly abnormal for me! I decided to just kinda throw a topic out there and see what you guys think! This is definitely a post that needs comments BC it will be totally pointless without them! With that said, the topic is fasting…. what do you think about it? Does it mean just food or anything? Have you ever done it before? If so, how long? If you fast from food how do you remain healthy? What would be your reason behind fasting?
I’ve tried it some and God seems to really bless it, but I’m still a little new to the idea. Let me know what you think! 🙂

I fasted resently about healing for my family. We have been fighting like crazy and almost all of them have gone to bed angry at each other and are still angry in the morning. We have problems with grudges and we can’t heal unless we learn to let go. The fasting worked. I’ve only fasted 5 times in my life. About what was best for me and my sister during the divorce, for me to grow in christ because I felt stuck and like I wasn’t growing anymore, and for healing of my family. I think it’s important to fast from something that you really enjoy, like if you are a computer junky than the computer should be what you fast from or if you love eating junk food, fast from that. It would make no sense to fast from meat if you hardly ever eat it anyway or if you fast from the phone and you really don’t like to talk on the phone. What would be the point in that?
haha, yeah, it doesn’t make any sense to fast from texting if you’ve never texted before. =P
I know a lady who fasted from her favorite beverage for a cause. She did this to let go of that conviction she had about that favorite drink and pray for the cause when she wanted to drink it. She has been faithful to this for what I think is going on 1 1/2 years. This is not what you typically think of as a fast but I have not seen or heard of a better example of one! Mostly because not very many people (maybe just me and family) know she did this. That is the most important thing about giving anything up in the name of the Lord and for the sake of fasting is to keep it to yourself and not draw attention to yourself by doing it…
Personally I think fasting is taking time away from something that distracts you from your walk with God. I’ve fasted from FB and blogging before. i even took a week off of fun reading, that was horrible. The point of fasting, at least the way I see it is to withdraw from the world and draw closer to God. Sometimes I may need to “fast” from something in order to have time to get school work done, which in my mind glorifies God because I my school is my job and I have a responsibility to do. If however, you start fasting from something in order to get people to look at you, then it is the wrong thing to do.
16 “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.-Matthew 6:16-18 (ESV)
Never done it either, always thought I was too young! =P
To be totally honest, I have never fasted before. I’m anxious to hear input from others as well. 🙂
