A Virtuous Woman

To begin, I’d like to point out that though this post is especially for us ladies, that doesn’t mean young men shouldn’t read it.  I believe young men can gain insight from this passage about what kind of a woman they should be looking for in a wife.

Before you read any further, read Proverbs 31:10-31.  I would quote it here, but it would make the post quite lengthy.  If you don’t have a Bible handy, here’s a link that might be of help. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2031:10-31&version=KJV  (You can change the translation if you prefer.)

Ok, now that you’ve read Proverbs 31:10-31, I’d like to point out key things from each verse that I believe we should be seeking in order to be virtuous women.  (This list was compiled from the KJV Bible, so the wording may not correspond exactly with your preferred translation.)  There are many things that can be inferred from various verses, but I listed what stood out to me at the time.

10) Rare – of more value than rubies.

11) Trustworthy – her husband has no fear of spoil.

12) She is good to him and not evil.

13) Industrious – willing to work with her hands.

14) and 15) A provider (under her husband’s protection – she is not THE provider) – she rises early to prepare food for the whole household.

16) Wise – considers before buying.

17) Strong – keeps physically fit.

18) and 19) A skillful craftswoman – working into the night.

20) Compassionate – helping the poor and needy.

21) Not fearful of cold – her household is well clothed.

22) Thrifty – making her clothes. Clothed elegantly, but not extravagantly.

23) An honor to her husband.

24) Productive – makes things to sell.

25) Joyful about the future, and characterized by strength and honor.

26) An advisor – imparts kind words of wisdom.

27) A diligent caregiver – taking care of her household.

28) Worthy of the praise of her family.

29) Exceeding in virtue (integrity, honesty, morality).

30) Legacy – A godly example to future generations.

31) Rewarded because of all she has accomplished in her life.

God bless you my sisters, as you seek to become a “Proverbs 31 woman.”
