Ok, sounds a little strange right?    Well, over the next several days, I wanted to share with you (and remind myself!) about a series that a dear friend and mentor of mine taught in our AWANA girl’s group about a year and a half ago.

When you think about your tongue, what first comes to mind?  Well, in the Bible, God uses the word “tongue” very often to refer to our words.  Here is a portion of what the Holy Spirit through James had to say about the tongue:

How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.  (James 3:5-10 ESV)

But, as Christians, we have the power of the Holy Spirit within us, which is able to tame the tongue, and turn it from something “full of poison” to something beautiful.

So what characterizes a beautiful tongue?  We’ll talk about that over the next several days.
